Introduction
Today, sowing of seed is a common practice in many religions and churches. Many sow seed because they think it is the quickest way to make God do what they want, while some ministers use it as a means of exhorting money and wealth from people. The best gift is a gift giving without expecting thanks, rewards, praise, force or persuasion.
Meaning Of Sowing Seed
Sowing of seed means to give some thing to God, in order for God to do some thing in return. For an example, a person wants a brand new car. He has struggled to save money and buy the car and could not, despite several attempts. Therefore, he gives a sum of money to a minister of God with the believe and hope that God will give him the car of his choice, soonest.
The Conditions In The Sowing Of Seed
- Somebody has to give a gift.
- The purpose of the gift is to get something in return.
- The gift has to be accepted by the receiver or his representative.
- Acceptance of the gift means that the receiver shall provide the needed things.
Is Sowing Of Seed Good?
Yes, sowing of seed is good.
Is It Compulsory?
No, sowing of seed is not compulsory. Only free will offering is acceptable to the Lord. Do not make it compulsory. Do not entice people to part with their money in the believe that that will make God do their wish.
How Often Should People Sow Seed?
Frequent sowing of seed is not acceptable and should not be encouraged. The best gift is a gift giving without expecting thanks, rewards, praises, persuasion or force.
Why Sowing Of Seed Should Not Be Frequent.
- People should not think that God is easily moved by bribe.
- People should cultivate the habit of waiting for God’s time, for God’s time is the best. Instead, they should learn to be patient, not to be trying to push God into action by frequent gifts or offerings.
- Many of the church members are not as rich as you may take them to be. It will surprise you to know that several families cannot provide three square meals in a day.
- At times, those who do not have may borrow in order to pay for religious duties, levies and obligations. It is not good to inconvenience people by pushing them into expenses that they cannot pay or that they are not ready for.
- Many of the poor and needy ones are not financially buoyant to meet frequent demands for sowing of seed.
- Ministers of God should not use the idea of sowing of seed to extort money from the children of God.
Do Not Push People Into Vows
Avoid the practice of always asking people to make vow. Most of the already made vows have not been fulfilled.
A debtor cannot enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, do not always ask people to make promise, and it is a crime to use the name of God to deprive people of their money and wealth.
The Best Gift
The best gift remains a gift given out of free will, without expecting thanks, without expecting rewards, without expecting praise, without expecting persuasion, without expecting force and without expecting message.
